Flea Markets and Tex Mex Tuesday

Today we went to a six-story building that our guide referred to as a “flea market”. It was a giant maze of toys, trinkets, chopsticks, housewares, silks, and just random stuff. It was a lot of fun to roam around - but very overwhelming! We got a few things for the kids (surprise, Skylar and Wyatt!) but mainly just looked around.

We have learned that Cate may eat a big breakfast around 8 - but by 10 o’clock girlfriend is HANGRY. She basically ate the rest of the day on and off. We went to the Walmart here and stocked up on snacks that she likes for the plane ride home (already NOT looking forward to that). So far we haven’t found anything she doesn’t like - except PB&J and she won’t try a snickers bar. So funny!

We have been searching for tacos for several days and so after nap we decided to head out via Subway to find the one place recommended to us. One other couple decided to brave it with us - and boy is “brave” the right word. It puts the NYC trains to shame. We knew it would be nuts based on stories and videos we had seen - but it was a whole other level of crazy. We left our hotel around 3:45 and didn’t arrive until 5. Ha! (The families who chose to taxi there left an hour after us and basically got there at the same time). It took us a minimum of 15 minutes and some help from a stranger just to purchase the right tokens. Nate did good though, before we left the states he asked what he could do to minimize stress for me on this trip and I said “ask for directions BEFORE you get us lost” - and he did. One point for Nate-dawg.

The steak quesadilla was the best one I’ve ever had in my life - and that is no exaggeration. We all crammed into this tiny little restaurant and took up more than half of it with our group. So nice to be able to order from someone who understood exactly what we were saying - and even made jokes with us that we could understand. Totally worth almost losing my life on the subway being trampled by people who were simultaneously instagramming the Americans. (Don’t worry, I gave them all a good ✌🏼 sign.)

Cate continues to amaze us with her language and how much repeating she does and what she understands. We even got several unprompted “pleases” today with words and sign language instead of just a thrown back head and a screech. Hallelujah.

The final countdown is on for our arrival home!! Three days! I can’t wait to squeeze my other Little People and finally see them with their sister.
